Our Existence : Sep 28, 2007

While I know some people say that the only thing that matters is the love of friends and family, to know that your existence to the general population means NOTHING is disheartening, depressing and downright sad.

The large news corporations of the world - especially the US - are the ones who in their opinions decide what events and occurrences in the world deserve attention from the masses; they determine whose lives they're going to put on public display and whose lives matter.

Non-Americans and even some Americans complain about how Black Americans always make everything a racial issue and how annoying it is.  The fact is, whether you want to believe it or not, most of these seeming coincidences are race-based issues.

For the most part, when a black person commits a racial act against someone of another race, it is a form of retaliation for the years of oppression and physical, mental and emotional abuse that they've suffered - "eye for an eye" kind of thing.  Mind you, I'm not saying that it's ok, but this is what we've been driven to and unless someone does something to stop it, it will only get worse.

Here you have issues such as the Rodney King beating, where a man was beaten within inches of his life by white police officers, and it was all caught on tape, but they all got off with a slap on the wrist.  You have incidents like that of Hurricane Katrina where people were treated worse than inanimate objects - their lives didn't matter, they're pride didn't matter, their families didn't matter...NOTHING MATTERED.  They were given funds to get back on their feet, and that was quickly revoked with the excuse of too many scams...they were given places to stay, and that was soon taken away....they were given food to eat, but it was thrown down on them as if they were feeding wild animals after days of starvation and dehydration....they were left to lay down with dead, rotten, infected, sickly bodies and human waste for days....they lost their jobs and their homes and were called refugees in their own home land as opposed to victims...what a society we are living in!

We have The Jena 6 - oh what a travesty - where 6 young black boys tried to defend the honor and civil liberties of themselves and their whole race, and were put on trial for doing so - even tried as adults no doubt...while the white boys who provoked them were given an undisclosed "more than a slap on the wrist" by the School Board...NOT the american justice system.  Yet when Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are called in to voice the concerns of the black people, they are seen as pests and problem-starters - mind you, these black icons are necessary as they are the only voices that the media and justice system will hear without violence.

....and Megan Williams' situation barely registers on the radar of the media.  With all this going on, a 20 year old black woman was tortured for approximately one week by 6 white people - 3 men 3 women.  A mother-daughter, mother-son and two other males with about 108 criminal offenses under their belts.  WOW!!!!!  The authorities question her connection to them as if to say it should make a difference; what happened to her was wrong and unjust on soooooo many levels, that the assailants should be treated like how the victims of hurricane katrina were treated - but hey, they were given $100,000 bail each...big whoop!

As the deputies spoke with a woman on the front porch, "a female inside the residence limped toward the door with her arms held out, saying 'Help me,' " according to a news release from the sheriff's department.
"It's something you'd expect to see in a horror movie, not in Logan County," Abraham said. "She was subjected to unendurable torture down there."

Police said Bobby Brewster raped Williams, forced her to lick blood and drink from a toilet, and told his mother to kill Williams if she tried to escape.
Authorities previously said Williams was also forced to eat rat and dog feces.

Alisha Burton 22 cut her ankle with a knife while saying, "That's what we do to Niggers around here," police records show.

But this manages not to be a hate crime of any sort!

IF THIS IS NOT A NEWSWORTHY HEADLINE I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.

My thougths:  it makes me as a black woman feel as though i don't exist.  To make it worse I am not even an American Citizen. Therefore, if something happens to me to tomorrow...it's no big deal...let's just continue to promote new ways to bring down O.J. Simpson and Michael Vick and find new black people to portray as perpetrators... and let's not forget to find out about the latest white girl gone missing somewhere around the world, glorify her existence and broadcast their memorial services and IGNORE anything that shows the victimisation of black people. Mind you, while these are important issues, I would like to think that Megan Williams' story is of more and/or equal significance.

I actually started to cry when I thought about how meaningless and unimportant I and those just like me are in the eyes of society.  Black people are this negative stereotype and that stereotype, and are constantly blamed for the ills of society...oh gangster rap is this and dancehall is that....but they find nothing wrong with creating posters and DVDs of mobsters portrayed and glorified on film and broadcasting how wonderful Las Vegas is because "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."  There's nothing wrong with the old Western movies who portrayed the Indians/Native Americans as savages although they were a peaceful people who lived in accordance with nature.

This makes me sick to my stomach and I'm tired of hearing how I should just live with it because that's just the way the world is.  It needs to stop and it is and never was ok and should never be swept under the rug.  Heinous racial crimes are committed everyday and no one knows about it or talks about it because they do not want to disrupt the Democratic/Free Society.

Something needs to be done and I don't know about you, but I want to do my part to stop this!

Asha i cant believe i have'nt posted a comment after soo long. First let me say well done on the profile pictures titled (Beautiful Antigua) those were the best photos i have ever seen of our beautiful island. I always thought you were gifted and now i see how. You have skills with a camera. Anyway i just want to say thanks for being a friend to me it was sad that you had to move away because i believe we could have become closer but maybe we are closer than we think. I never thought i would meet a person like you because we are so much alike in some ways. There is something about u that i cant explain and anyone who wants to find out will have to take that journey by themselves. Asha friends like you are hard to find and as they say "show me your friends and i will tell u what kind of person you are" so i know im a great person. Stay sweet and continue to welcome others into your life they way you have welcomed me because having you as a friend is a blessing. God brings people into our lives for a reason. Take care fren God Bless
